I have been selling real estate for 22 years in this area. I was born and raised in this area and know it well. I know where the best lakes are to catch a fish, where all the snowmobile trails are, the highest mountain to hike or the shadiest oak tree to relax under. Whatever your need, I would be happy to find it for you.

The Gooderham Branch of the Haliburton County Public Library was established in 1965 and was located in the former Municipal Office where the parking lot is now. Two hundred books were on loan from the Victoria County Public Library (now Kawartha Lakes) and were exchanged every two months.
The library was eventually moved in to the new Municipal Building and currently offers over 3000 titles and approximately 100 dvd’s (from informative documentaries to “those other movies” and the latest releases). The Haliburton County Public Library has over 36,000 volumes of books, magazines and dvd’s for you to request, and Inter-Library loans from almost all of the public libraries in Ontario make almost any book you could want only a request away.
Supervisor Marilyn Billings hosts a Book Discussion Group on the first Thursday evening of every month starting at 7pm. Drop by to find out the book selection of the month. It might even be one of their ever-popular “free reads” where participants bring their favourite book or one they are currently reading. It’s a great way to learn about different books that you might not have selected.
The library also offers a CAP (Community Access Program) Computer with high-speed internet, and wi-fi is also available. Online databases such as Ancestry.ca (to trace your family history) and Halidex (local newspapers) are also just a click of the mouse away.
Watch the community events calendar in early Summer for the Library’s Author’s Day. This is a great way to learn about and meet local author’s and spotlight their work. Did you know that in all of Haliburton County there are over 75 published authors?!
Every Summer the Gooderham Branch, along with all the libraries in Haliburton County participate in the TD Summer Reading Program. This is a great program to keep kids reading and exploring all that great books have to offer, with a fun activity book, poster and certificate at the end for reading 10 books over the summer time.
Whether you are looking for adult fiction and non fiction, children’s books, juvenile or young adult, magazines, large print books, paperbacks and audio and e-books, and tumble books you are bound to find something you will enjoy. Be sure to stop in, sign up for a library card if you don’t already have one and explore all that the Gooderham Library has to offer.

According to the records of The Late Gordon Barr, the first Pentecostal Church was originally a house that had been built by Lorne Hunter in 1914. I have been told that the 109th Battalion trained here as well as in the Orange Hall.
The Pentecostal Church was very active in the community and stories are still told of the revival meetings which used to be held on the street and at the fairgrounds by visiting pastors. By all accounts, these revival meetings were well attended.
Louis Mintz was “a faithful pastor of the Pentecostal Mission for over 30 years”. The late Gordon Barr wrote: “Louis Mintz was one of our most respected local men…” It has also been said, “If ever there was a Christian man, it was Louis Mintz.” Mr. Mintz died on January 19, 1958.
Shortly after Mr. Mintz’s death the congregation built the Church which stands today at #1042 Mill St. When the new Church was built, the top storey of the old church was removed and taken to #11218 County Road 503 where Ken and Rosealeen MacDuff still live. Some of the Pastors who have served at the new church, not necessarily in chronological order, are: Tom Thompson, Ron Campbell, Glen Pitts, his brother Chris Pitts, David Gagnon, Roger Sauvé, Eldon Switzer, Bob Vernon, Brian Williamson, Steve Warr, Patrick Steele and Doug Willoughby; Lorne Trimbull is the current Pastor along with Pianist Carolyn Trimble.
The Gooderham Quilters, started by Marjorie Billings and Priscilla Mintz many years ago, meet each Thursday in the basement of the Pentecostal Church where they work diligently at piecing, quilting and binding quilts, some of which are sold and some of which are given to needy families. They also present a baby quilt to the family of each newborn in the congregation.

PENTECOSTAL CHURCH
Join us for Sunday service at 11am.
Minister: Rev. Peter Walford-Davis
VAM: Rev. David Watson
Please join us in worship each Sunday at 11am.
Gooderham United Church will celebrate its 117th Anniversary on Sunday, August 14, 2011.
It began as a Methodist Church in 1894, later to become part of the Tory Hill Pastoral Charge of the United Church of Canada.
It has played an important role in the lives of many local families as evident in the historic roll and records of baptisms, marriages and funerals.
In bustling days it provided a meeting place where many gathered for worship and fellowship.
Presently, in addition to weekly Sunday services, Family Music Nights will take place on Friday, June 10th and Friday, December 9th at 7pm.
Fundraising occurs in the form of Yard Sales that are held on Victoria Day weekend and Labour Day weekend, as well as Bake and Craft sales at Easter and Christmas.

The Station 3 Volunteer Fire Department has been in operation since 1965. And over the years has been served by many of the men and women in Gooderham.
Station 3 currently has over a dozen dedicated volunteers responding to fires, motor vehicle collisions and medical calls, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Station 3 is also supported by the Gooderham Fire & Rescue Auxiliary, which consists of fire fighter spouses and members of the community.
All volunteers have First Responders Training and are required to attend regular Medical Training and re-certification.
Training that Station 3 members have include: Officers 101 Course, Incident Command, Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator, Trainer Facilitator, Vehicle Extrication, Recruit Course at Eastern Ontario Fire Academy, Traffic Control, Defibrillator Training and re-certification every 3 months.
Station 3 Fire Department’s Fleet includes 301 Pumper Truck, 302 Tanker Truck, 303 Emergency Response Truck, 304 Emergency Response Extrication Sled, 305 Emergency Response All –Terrain Vehicle, 306 Snowmobile.
The summer of 2009 the Gooderham Volunteer Fire Fighters Association held numerous fundraising BBQ’s and held a successful raffle draw to raise money to purchase Vehicle Extrication Equipment. The Association gave themselves a projected deadline of 2 years to raise the $18,000.00 needed to purchase these tools. With the help of community donations and the proceeds from their fundraising efforts, the money was raised that summer and by Fall the equipment was purchased and put into service.
In 2010 the volunteers held another successful BBQ as well as their ever-popular Fire Fighter’s Great Canadian Breakfast and raised enough money to purchase Scene Lighting to compliment the Vehicle Extrication Equipment.

During our search for a studio in the Haliburton area we came upon a ten acre parcel of land with a 128 year old farm house that met our needs. As it turned out, this farm had been owned by the Riel family for the past 100 years. It was the ideal location for my studio combining heritage with nature. We quickly converted the ground floor into a Gallery and the upper floor into my studio.
Our Gallery on the ground floor combined with the country veranda allows our clients and guests the comfort and relaxation to enjoy the Art and Country serenity of my studio.
